Friday Finish: Comfort Quilt

We probably all know someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. I personally know of four people undergoing treatment at the moment. I wish I was a speedier quilter so that I could make a quilt for everyone I know who is struggling. One friend in particular is currently battling a very aggressive form of breast cancer and experiencing complications. This quilt is for her.

Rinse and Repeat quilt pattern

The pattern is called Rinse and Repeat by Erin of House on Hill Road. I made the twin size using bright fabric scraps and Kona Splash. The back is an extra wide print by Kaffe Fassett, and the binding is from my stash. The top has been assembled for months now, but my longarm (typically) was being temperamental. In the end, my friend Debra (Made of Honor Quilts) rescued me by quilting it beautifully on her longarm.

I brought the quilt with me on vacation to Montana, and hand stitched the binding during long car rides to Yellowstone and watching Toy Story with my grandson. Even with the beautiful Montana vistas, I didn’t take time for a photo shoot. Here’s another picture of the quilt hanging from the loft.

I also curated an embroidery kit for her to possibly vent some frustrations with a stabbing needle and thread motion. She’s not a crafter, but I am hoping this may convert her. It can be so therapeutic. I apologize to my mom (and anyone else offended) for the curse word.
