Friday Finish: Matching Gifts
If you haven't figured it out by now, I am obsessed with what I call the happy flower EPP block. I have three projects (and counting) using these blocks, have created an enamel pin based on this design, made countless pincushions using one block, and now apparently have branched into coasters and coffee mugs ;-)
At our guild's EPP Sewcial, two friends were celebrating birthdays and I wanted to bring gifts. I am taking a break from Wee Braw Bags, and these two friends have already received pincushions from me, so I chose to make coasters from my stash of EPP blocks to match coffee mugs (of which I also have a stash 😮).
I tried something new (to me) with the coasters. I left the backing a tad bigger on all four sides when "basting" and folded it over to make the binding. I then used Perle cotton to hand stitch the binding down. For the quilting, I used the same thread and echoed around the flower. You can definitely tell it is all hand stitched. Perfectly imperfect is what I am going for!
I will admit to stitching the binding on the purple coaster while sitting next to the unaware recipient at our Sewcial ;-)) I miscalculated the amount of time it would take to make these. Oh well, my friends seemed happy with their gifts. I appreciate their indulgence with my obsessions with coffee mugs, enamel pins, and this particular block at the moment.
What's your current quilty obsession? Thanks for stopping by.
Happy stitching,
